Sanjeev Joshi is the founder of Urban sketchers Pune. He was an Instructor at 2015 International Urban Sketching Symposium in Singapore, conducted a workshop at AsiaLink Sketchwalk: Kuching 2017, and was invited to showcase his travel sketches in Carnedue Voyage at Clermont Ferrand, France in 2012. He has conducted more than 25 workshops in india for students of architecture. He is an architect by profession.

Sanjeev's Workshop



The aim of this workshop is to explore acrylic paints as sketching mediums in an abstract way. I have not seen anyone doing sketches in acrylic paints, I think this will be a good medium to explore. The sketching will involve composition and creating tonal values. The textural quality of acrylic paints (though waterbased) using a palette knife is something to learn about.


We will learn to see abstraction in realistic scenes. and see realistic forms in abstract patterns of nature. Abstract realism can be applied to any subject, like architecture, people, streetscapes, vehicles, etc.

Workshop Level: any level could learn from this workshop.


Duration: 3 hours comprising on-location demo, exercise, and discussion.


What to bring: Sanjeev will bring most of the material such as paper, paints and plastic knives. Participants should bring a palette, water bowl, and rags pieces only.
