Rendra is a full-time artist living in Bandung. He studied drawing from the late artist Barli Sasmitawinata who is known for his academic style of drawing.

Rendra's works have been exhibited at Kunsthalle Wien in Vienna, Austria in 2018, the National Gallery in Jakarta in 2016 and 2019, as well as in art spaces and commercial galleries in Bandung, Jakarta, Yogjakarta, and Bali.

Rendra's background in fine art - particularly his exquisite drawing skill - has brought the urban sketching scene in Bandung to mostly uncharted territory where sketchers began to draw people and activities in urban settings - not the usual urban scene adorned with people.

In this workshop, we asked Rendra to share his approach and techniques to human figure sketching that captures the essence of a scene. Hendra prefers using a willow charcoal stick that allows him to focus on the big picture and leave the details to viewer's imagination.

Workshop Level: any level could learn from this workshop.

Duration: 3 hours comprising model-sketching demo and exercise, followed by a discussion. Rendra will be accompanied by an English - Bahasa Indonesia interpreter.

What to bring: Paper and Willow charcoal sticks will be provided. Participants are welcome to bring his/her own variants of charcoal.
